Chicago Chapter Clinic Features Machine Players
The Chicago Chapter held a "Get Acquainted with Lacrosse" indoor clinic recently for youth players and received an assist from Chicago Machine players Mike Culver and Zach Gagel. The two professionals provided the kids with an expert's introduction to the game. The Chapter also provided sticks - acquired through a US Lacrosse Equipment Grant Program - to each of the participants. The kids were able to take the sticks home following the clinic in order to begin their wall-ball workouts. -submitted by Steve Larek

PLA Web Site Reaches Milestone The Philadelphia Lacrosse Association’s web site recently celebrated a major milestone, surpassing the 100,000 "homepage hits" mark on December 3, 2006. The web site was launched on February 11, 2005 and has steadily gathered an audience. Since its inception, the site has averaged 4,762 hits per month. The PLA is still looking to add links to web sites of lacrosse constituencies in its chapter area, and to build content to provide more information about youth programs and high school programs. If programs do not have a web site, they are invited to forward information to the PLA webmaster and to use a page on the PLA site to publicize news, events, tryout dates and other information about their program. Forward program information - when it was founded, how it was founded, who started it and any other pertinent details - together with digital pictures, logos and applicable links to sgrowney@comcast.net.
Philadelphia Golf Outing Supports the Game
The Philadelphia Lacrosse Association's recent golf outing at the Manufacturers' Country Club raised $13,000 to support PLA's mission to promote lacrosse in the region. The event included 92 participants and 43 individual and corporate sponsors. The annual PLA golf outing has raised almost $178,000 since its inception in 1993. Through the years, proceeds from the event have enabled the PLA to help launch and expand youth and high school lacrosse programs, provide camp scholarships, conduct clinics, sponsor area tournaments, and maintain the Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame, among other things. This year's funds will be earmarked, in part, to support the Philadelphia School District's Middle School Program. North Texas Chapter Receives Gift Tom Fitzsimmons, chapter president, recently accepted a generous donation of $10,000 from Charlie Murphy's Estate to help assist in the growth of the game in North Texas. Murphy, a charter member of the Hudson Valley Chapter's Hall of Fame and a 1998 inductee to the National Hall of Fame, was a legendary figure in the game's development at Yorktown (N.Y.) High School and in the Hudson Valley region. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 93. The donation was made to honor Murphy's long-time contributions to and love for the game. The chapter is deciding on how to best use the gift so that it will have a long-lasting and meaningful effect on the sport in the area.

Hudson Valley Chapter Hosts Successful Boys Youth Clinic The clinic served 49 youth coaches who received instruction on drills, practice plans, and team offense and defense development as well as an introduction to the "Sportsmanship Card" program. The 140 youth players in attendance received instruction on skills like stick work, dodging and team offense/defense, while the 50+ parents on hand received a presentation by Chapter President Dan Kaiser on the membership benefits of joining US Lacrosse and the Hudson Valley Chapter. Ted Georgalas of Mahopac also provided insights on the realities of varsity and collegiate lacrosse, and strongly encouraged parents to help grow a "passion" in whatever interest their children may have.
"Our local high school varsity coaches provided the clinic instruction," said Kaiser. "We donated the proceeds of the clinic to their Coaches Association in order to assist in the cost of the All-County and All-Section Awards provided to the top players in Section I." www.hudsonvalleylacrosse.com
