No. 2 Cal Poly 12, No. 4 Michigan 7 Cal Poly scored seven straight second half goals en route to its sixth straight US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship by defeating fourth-seeded Michigan 12-7 at Tom Kimbrough Stadium in Murphy, Texas. The second-seeded Mustangs trailed for the first time this season at halftime 5-4 but rallied behind Janelle and Brittany Jones who scored four and three goals, respectively in the win. Michigan trailed early in the contest 2-1 before scoring four consecutive goals to take a 5-2 lead with seven minutes left in the half. The second-seeded Mustangs closed out the half with Janelle Jone's third goal of the game and a goal from senior Meryl Rodgers. Michigan senior Claire McTaggart led the Wolverines with three goals and freshman Alexis Pavle scored two goals and one assist in defeat. Cal Poly is the only Women's Division IA National Champion since the first tournament in 2001.

No. 4 Michigan 15, No. 1 Colorado State 6 The Michigan Wolverines took down No. 1 Colorado State with a surprising 15-6 victory in the semifinals of the US Lacrosse Women's Division IA National Championship at Russell Creek Park. Michigan advances to its first national championship game and will face the five-time defending national champion Cal Poly. Michigan defeated the Mustangs earlier in the season with an 8-6 victory. Cal Poly ended Michigan's season the past three years in the IA tournament. Michigan jumped out early on Colorado State and never looked back as the Wolverines went into halftime leading 8-4. In the second half the Michigan defense held the CSU offense to two goals. Senior Claire McTaggart and junior Noelle Frazier scored three goals apiece for Michigan in the victory. Colorado State senior scored three goals to pace the Rams in her final collegiate game. The 2006 US Lacrosse Women's Division IA National Championship will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Tom Kimbrough Stadium in Murphy, Texas.
No. 2 Cal Poly 10, No. 6 Colorado 6 For the sixth consecutive year since the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Championship has existed the Mustangs from Cal Poly will be playing on Saturday for another title. Second-seeded Cal Poly defeated No. 6 Colorado 10-6 in the semifinals at Russell Creek Park in Plano, Texas. The five-time defending champions Cal Poly were paced by three goals from Janelle Jones and two goals apiece from Molly Sauer, Bridget Hill and Brittany Jones. The Mustangs led 5-3 at the half. Colorado had six different players tally one goal in the defeat. The Mustangs will face Michigan in the title game on Saturday, May 13 at Tom Kimbrough Stadium.

No. 1 Colorado State 15, No. 8 Brigham Young 7 Senior Kate Sebasta scored six goals and senior Dana Nilson added four markers and an assist to lead the top-ranked Rams into the semifinals for the second straight season. CSU gained control early, building an 11-5 halftime advantage against their RMWLL rival. Sophomore Lindsay Brown added three goals and three assists for Colorado State. BYU, which claimed its first-ever tournament victory earlier in the day, was led by junior Ashley Lower’s two goals. Colorado State advances to play No. 4 Michigan in Friday’s second semifinal game.
No. 2 Cal Poly 18, No. 7 Florida 2 The Mustangs blitzed the Gators with an 11-0 second half to return to the semifinals. Freshman Brittany Jones led the five-time defending champions with five goals and one assist. Junior Bridget Hill recorded three goals, and four others contributed two goals apiece. Florida was hoping to make its third straight semifinal round appearance. Cal Poly plays No. 6 Colorado in Friday afternoon’s first semifinal match-up.
No. 6 Colorado 14, No. 3 Pittsburgh 7 Tied 6-6 at halftime, the Buffaloes outscored the Panthers 8-1 in the second half to earn their first-ever semifinal round berth. Freshman Amy Long, sophomore Courtney Yarusso and freshman Marissa Jaross paced a balanced Colorado offense with three goals each. Three Colorado goalies combined for 10 saves in the game, led by seven stops by sophomore Danica Minor. Pitt’s Katie Wheeler had a team-high three points on two goals and one assist, and goalie Lauren Masciantonio recorded 17 saves.
No. 4 Michigan 17, No. 12 Navy 5 Freshman Alexis Pavle had six goals and one assist to help the Wolverines thwart Navy’s bid for a second straight tournament upset. Senior Karen Anderson scored four goals and sophomore Ashley Steitz netted three for Michigan, which earned its fourth overall semifinal round berth and first since 2004. Navy, which finished as the tournament’s runner-up in 2001, was led by Valerie Chapdelaine’s two goals.

No. 1 Colorado State 22, No. 16 Minnesota-Duluth 4 Senior Kate Sebesta scored four goals and sophomore Andee Barocas added four goals and an assist as the top-seeded Rams had little trouble in their opening game. CSU jumped to a 13-2 halftime lead and maintained control throughout. Freshman Ashley Gaume and senior Dana Nilson tallied three goals each, while sophomore Lindsay Brown established a new WDIA single-game record with six assists. Junior Taylor Dornik led Minnestota-Duluth, making its second tournament appearance, with three goals.
No. 2 Cal Poly 19, No. 15 Oregon (club) 3 The five-time defending champion jumped to a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised to an easy win in its opening game. Junior Janelle Jones led the Mustangs offensively with six markers, while junior Bridget Hill tallied three goals and an assist. Four others added two goals each for Cal Poly, which improved its all-time tournament record to 18-0.
No. 3 Pittsburgh 11, No. 14 Northeastern 10 The Panthers, who led 8-4 at halftime, survived a scare from first-time tournament qualifier Northeastern and hung on for their first tournament victory in three appearances. Freshman Melissa Nowaczyk led Pitt with four goals, while sophomore Katie Wheeler finished with five points on three goals and two assists. Freshman goalie Lauren Masciantonio recorded 11 saves. Sophomore Brelyn Spindel paced the Huskies with three goals, while senior Megan Bates contributed four assists.
No. 4 Michigan 18, No. 13 Army 4 Freshman Rachel Lary and junior Noelle Frazier tallied five goals apiece to lead the Wolverines to an easy first round victory. Senior Claire McTaggart finished with four goals for Michigan, which built an 11-2 halftime lead. Stephanie Davison led Army with two goals and goalie Kelly Lanternier had 15 saves in a losing effort.
No. 12 Navy 10, No. 5 UC-Santa Barbara 7 Four goals by Kaylene Klingenstein and 11 saves by goalie Natalie Blandon helped the Mids pull off the only upset of the opening round. Navy built a four-goal halftime advantage, then withstood a second half surge by the Gauchos to earn a quarterfinal round match-up against Michigan. UCSB, a tournament semifinalist last year, was a first round loser for the first time in its three tournament appearances.
No. 6 Colorado 14, No. 11 Santa Clara 13 (OT) In a close game throughout, the Buffaloes outscored Santa Clara 3-2 during the four-minute overtime session to claim their first-ever tournament victory. Freshman Amy Long had three goals to lead Colorado, with Marissa Jaross, Meghan Wood and Courtney Yarusso adding two each. Yarusso’s second of the game, with 30 seconds remaining in overtime, proved to be the game-winner. Jaross netted both of her goals within 26 seconds in the final minutes of regulation to force the extra period. Lindsay Campbell paced Santa Clara with five goals and three assists, with Jamie Weaver adding four goals and three assists.
No. 7 Florida 11, No. 10 Texas A&M 9 (OT) Senior Mills Wallace tallied five goals, including the game-tying goal with 43 seconds left in regulation and one of the two overtime tallies, to lead the Gators into the quarterfinal round. The game was tied 3-3 at halftime and 9-9 at the end of regulation. Senior Meg Korce led Texas A&M with three goals. Florida’s Jennifer Dunham finished with seven saves while Courtney Mechler had 11 saves for the Aggies.
No. 8 Brigham Young 13, No. 9 Maryland (club) 10 The Cougars, making their first tournament appearance, used four goals from senior Mackenzie Clark and three apiece from senior Christy VanDerwerken and sophomore Ashley Fouler to move past Maryland. BYU, an at-large selection from the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League, advances to face RMWLL champion and number one seed Colorado State in the quarterfinal round. Senior Meghan Taneyhill finished with three goals and one assist to pace the Terps.
