US Lacrosse Invites 117 Players For U.S. Women's Under-19 Team Tryouts At United Sports Training Center

Baltimore — US Lacrosse will welcome 117 of the greatest girls' lacrosse players in the nation to the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., Aug. 12-14, to try out for the U.S. Women's Under-19 Team that will compete for the 2003 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Championship.

From the tryout, a selection committee comprised of regional representatives, individuals involved with the National Teams Program, and the U-19 coaching staff, will select a training squad from which the official 16-member roster will be determined. The training squad will be announced August 15. Wendy Kridel, head coach at the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, was named the team's head coach in October 2001.

"The players selected to the National round will provide us the best opportunity to select a competitive team capable of repeating as under-19 world champions. The tryout should be a great showcase of talent by girls' lacrosse players from around the country," said Erin Brown, US Lacrosse Women's Division Director. "We're also very excited and grateful to be hosting the tryout at a great facility like the United Sports Training Center."

The 60-acre, state-of-the-art United Sports Training Center features 11 outdoor fields, including two with lights, and four indoor fields. It has hosted numerous lacrosse, soccer and field hockey events. Boasting one million visitors annually, the United Sports Training Center is within short distance of Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York.

The U.S. finished as the runner-up to Australia in the inaugural 1995 IFWLA U-19 World Championship in Haverford, Pa., but defeated the host Australians for the championship in 1999. US Lacrosse is hosting the joint IFWLA/International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U-19 World Championships at Towson (Md.) University from June 26-July 6, 2003.

The U.S. Women's U-19 Team Tryouts are closed to the public and the media.

US Lacrosse, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse.
