Mid Atlantic Wins Its Fourth Straight High School Title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Megan Bosica (Mt. Hebron H.S., Md.) and Jennifer Holden (St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, Va.) each scored five goals to lead Mid Atlantic 1 past New York 1 by a 14-12 score in the top flight of the High School Division at the 71st annual US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament at Lehigh University. It was the fourth straight Val Walchak trophy for Mid Atlantic, which also got three goals from Mary Veith (Georgetown Visitation, Md.). Mandy Friend (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led New York with two goals and an assist.

Bosica, who also had two assists, was honored with the Heather Leigh Albert Trophy, which is awarded to the top high school player in the tournament. Also honored at the tournament were California umpire Dot Harrop with the Nancy Chance Service Award, U.S. Elite Team member and Stanford coach Michelle Uhlfelder with the Beth Allen Award, and Johanna Buckholz of James Madison received the Aimee Willard Award as the top collegiate player competing in the National Tournament.

In Division 2 of the High School Division, Megan Zeman (Mullen, Colo) had three goals and Alexi Sanders (Cherry Creek, Colo.) had two goals and two assists to lead Mountain 1 past Great Lakes 1 by an 11-8 score for the championship.

In the Club Division, New England won the Division 1 title for the first time since 1999. New England, which featured U.S. Elite team members Bonnie Rosen (head coach at Connecticut) and Sarah Nelson (head coach at Harvard), went 4-1 in pool play, including a 12-5 victory over Mid Atlantic 1 to claim the President's Cup.

In Division 2, Mid Atlantic 2 went unbeaten, including a 7-6 victory over the Canadian National Team, to win the flight. In Division 3, New York 2 went unbeaten to win the division for the second straight year. In Division 4, Middle Atlantic 4 edged New York 3 by a 10-9 score to win the flight.

In exhibition games, current Stanford goalie Christina Saikus made 10 saves to lead a combined Club Division all-star team past the U.S. Women's Elite Team 8-6 on May 29. The club team, which also included some members of the U.S. Elite Team, got two goals each from current Northwestern player Kristen Kjellman and former Cornell star Sarah Averson. Former Princeton All-American Christa Samaras led the Elite team with two goals.

In the High School Senior All-Star Game at Ulrich Field on Saturday night, the White team defeated the Blue team 10-3. Ali Smith (Comsewogue H.S., N.Y.) and Meredith St. Lawrence (Suffern H.S., N.Y.) each had two goals and an assist for the White team and Julie Stone (Annandale H.S., Va.) added two goals. Kendall McBrearty (St. Stephen's/St. Agnes School, Va.) made five first half saves while allowing just one goal.

Zan Morley (Springside H.S., Pa.), Heather Ferguson (Archbishop Carroll H.S, Pa.) and Lauren Morton (Gwynedd Mercy H.S., Pa.) all had one goal for the Blue team.
