U.S. Downs Long Island 11-9

Andrew Feinberg (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh/Brown '11), Jack McBride(Madison, N.J./Delbarton/Princeton '11) and Matt MacKrides (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep/Penn State '12) each scored two goals as the 2008 U.S. Under-19 men's lacrosse team team played competitively for the first time, beating a Long Island All-Star team 11-9 on Sunday afternoon at Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) High School. The game was the first of five exhibition games for the U.S. team before it opens play in the International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championship on July 3 in British Columbia, Canada.

Adam GhitelmanThe U.S. team started slowly, falling behind 3-0 early in the game and the score was tied 6-6 at the half before the U.S. team blanked the Long Island team 3-0 in the third quarter to pull away.

Feinberg, one of three players competing for the final roster spot on the team, also added an assist to lead Team USA in scoring. Feinberg was the New England Rookie of the Year at Brown this spring. Long Island was led by a pair of Penn freshmen - Corey Winkoff (Cold Spring Harbor HS) had three goals and Al Kohart (Comsewogue HS) had two goals.

The U.S. team continues its exhibition schedule next weekend with a game against the New Jersey All-Stars on Saturday night (June 14) at Bridgewater-Raritan (N.J.) High School.
