A week after there were myriad changes, the USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Top 25 looks a lot like last week in the top 10. Beyond that, significant losses shook up the bottom half of the rankings engineered in part by two newcomers.
The wins and losses are magnified in the final month of the season as teams narrow their focus on championship runs.
For the second straight week, Agnes Irwin (Pa.) played a major role in mixing up the rankings. The Owls were highly regarded coming into the season, but some head-scratching losses knocked them out early. Following up from their win over top-five Episcopal (Pa.), Agnes Irwin knocked off Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.) to debut at No. 20. They also have a chance ahead to avenge some earlier defeats.
Debuting just a bit higher was Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.). The Phantoms have been streaking after two one-goal losses early in the season kept them out of the rankings. They vault in at No. 16 and make such a lofty debut based largely on their win over an American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) team that was in midseason while they were in their opener. Bayport-Blue Point has only improved since.
Their debuts pushed down a few teams who are still enjoying strong seasons. Other significant moves were Sayville (N.Y.) jumping seven spots after its unbeaten start, which includes a win over the aforementioned Bayport-Blue Point, and Morristown (N.J.) rising five spots thanks to wins over several highly regarded in-state teams.
Colorado Academy (Colo.) was pushed by in-state rival Valor Christian (Colo.) but proved to be the best of the West Region — as well as a national power.
